Kempegowda International Airport is the primary airport for Bangalore & the surrounding regions. This is the busiest and new airport in India. The airport spreads over 4,000 acres and is located about 30 km north of the city. The owner of the airport is Bengaluru International Airport Ltd.
The airport was inaugurated in 2008 and is the 1st Greenfield airport in India. It is established on a Public-private partnership model, also known as PPP. The airport is an alternative to HAL airport. HAL airport was the primary airport of the city, but the congestion of passengers was seen. Later, the Kempegowda airport was built and is now a solar-powered airport.

Kempegowda International Airport Bangalore is the third busiest airport in India after Delhi and Mumbai. In the year 2022-23, it served around 32 million passengers and handled over 410,000 tonnes of cargo. The airport connects to all continents and offers direct flights to five of them.
The airport has 2 terminals for passengers, 1 for domestic and 1 for international flights, and 2 runways. The 2nd terminal was opened in December 2022 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It was started for domestic flights in January 2023. All international flights moved to the new terminal in September 2023. Also, there are cargo facilities like a cargo village and 3 terminals. The airport is a hub for several airlines and is an important city for Air India and SpiceJet.

Training academy for Indigo Airlines -
On September 4, 2019, IndiGo declared its plan to expand its learning academy, iFly, to Bangalore. The academy will be constructed on the airport premises. Training for airline employees at iFly began on September 6, 2019. The academy has more than 27,000 employees and employs over 100 instructors who regularly conduct workshops.
Air India has signed a new MOU to establish Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities at Kempegowda Airport. At first, these facilities will focus on Airframe Maintenance. Later, it included the expansion of hangars for Wide-Body and Narrow-Body aircraft. It worked to perform all types of checks, including heavy structural checks.
The airport is in the best localities of Bangalore. The city serves as a major IT hub in India and offers many job opportunities. The connectivity from the city to the airport is excellent. There are many buses and cabs available to reach the airport.
